A few years ago while sitting in Photography 101 at GRCC, I stumbled across a blog called “Adventures of Newlyweds” written by Ashley Slater. It really caught my attention, at the time she and her husband were traveling the country for work and she posted all of their adventures on the blog. Ashley has a great sense of humor and I found my self really connecting to her posts. Fast forward about 3 years, Ashley is now living in Michigan and has become a talented photographer. Her blog, now called “The Sweet Season” is still one I read regularly along with quite a few others.
When Ashley announced that she would be hosting a creative workshop along with with her friend Michaela Warner of Michaela Noelle Designs I knew I had to go. I nearly drove Zac crazy obsessing over whether or not I would get a spot! There I was sitting up until midnight when registration opened hitting refresh every 3 seconds (I’m not even embarrassed to admit that, I REALLY wanted to go). Needless to say I got a spot and it felt like Christmas!
The Bloom Workshop took place this past Friday, June 13th at the most gorgeous venue you could imagine, the Hydrangea Blu barn in Rockford. The barn looked phenomenal, flowers and cute little succulents on the tables, place settings with notebooks with our names on them, the cutest coffee mugs ever courtesy of Ashley & Malone– I could go on and on. It was beautiful. Apparently I was too overwhelmed by it all to remember to take any photos on my DSLR so all I have to show you are a few iPhone shots. Unfortunately they don’t quite do it justice.
The day started off with breakfast & coffee, followed by Ashley and Michaela leading sessions on blogging for your business and social media. This was one of my favorite parts of the day. I’ve been sort of lost since starting this blog, unsure of how to use it not only for my business but for a personal blog and Ashley and Michaela were able to answer so many of my questions! There were definitely a lot of things I was doing wrong too, or things I wasn’t doing that I should have been. I’m excited to put what I learned into practice!
After lunch Michaela led a session on interior design and that was super fun, even though I don’t have an interest in it as a career, I LOVE decorating my own house and it was neat to get some tips from a talented designer like Michaela. Next Ashley showed everyone how to shoot in manual on their cameras and gave us some great photography tips which everyone got to practice with the next portion of the workshop: Our very own styled shoot!
The styling for the shoot was absolutely unbelievable, Michaela used gold, pink and beautiful blooms from The Day’s Design to bring together the most gorgeous table setting. The models were beautiful as well and the dresses were absolutely stunning on them!
After the styled shoot we headed back to the barn for a Q&A time with some awesome bloggers and small business owners. It was so inspiring to meet all of the women who attended the workshop, it was amazing to be surrounded by so many awesome people who share a lot of the same interests and passions and yet are so diverse at the same time. I loved, loved, loved the workshop and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has an interest in blogging, photography, or design.
Thank you so much to all of the ladies who worked so hard to put together this amazing experience!
